We're pleased to present celebrated New Zealand guitar legend Roy Montgomery's new record Suffuse, out August 17. It's his latest since 2016's tremendous, highly-acclaimed release R M H Q, which Pitchfork likened to a "shadowy dream". For Suffuse, Montgomery enlists guest vocalists Haley Fohr (Circuit des Yeux), Jessica Larrabee (She Keeps Bees), Katie Von Schleicher, Clementine and Valentine Nixon (Purple Pilgrims), Julianna Barwick, and Liz Harris (Grouper) to sing over his compositions.
The LP/CD is available to pre-order now via Grapefruit Record Club, in addition to the Special Edition, which includes the bonus "Refuse" LP, limited to a run of only 70 copies!
Stream the first single, "Landfall", featuring Liz Harris below:
Hamish was generous enough to let us work with him on his first solo album, and apparently, we didn’t piss him off in any awful way, because we are back four years later with his second! Like before, I don’t know if “solo” is really appropriate, since he has a stageload of people assisting him here, but I would guess he had say on final cut, which is no doubt highly valued when you are most known for being in a band you share with your sibling (that band is The Clean, ok? The Clean. Ever heard of The Clean???) Finklestein takes Hamish’s mad creative instincts and lets it loose over a lightly themed album, based on a fairytale he conceived for his son. While Finklestein is the name of the imaginary kingdom he invented, the record Finklestein sounds like this entire world showed up to play an instrument.
Here are two songs for you from this glorious and colorful release, just to give a sense of the breadth:
For those early birds who love their Hamish, there’s a Finklestein Special Edition, which includes Funklestein, an entire second LP of music created to complement it’s cohort release. This bonus LP, limited to 50 copies and vinyl only, provides two psychedelirious side long tracks (Side A: “Reaction” & Side B: “Action”) using the same musicians and studio as Finklestein proper.
Click here for Hamish Kilgour’s Finklestein preorder. Album is out June 22nd!

Roy's albums may come out on our sister label Grapefruit, but he's part of our family, too. We couldn't convince him to make it all the way to the States, but he'll be in Europe this November, hitting such events as Le Guess Who? Festival. Say hi to him for us.

TALsounds and Matchess are hitting the road for a couple weeks this July, so if you're on the East Coast, you're in luck. Earlier this month we released Love Sick, TALsounds' debut LP. Natalie Chami's project centers on her ability to multitask with loops, synthesizers, beats, effects. She may be one human onstage, but the sonic presence is far greater. Don't miss out on what Wire calls "the sound of a synthesist at the height of her skills, with a voice at its most emotive and a melodic framework at its most fragmented."
Today we've shared the closer from Katie Von Schleicher's Shitty Hits (out July 28th), seen on NPR as S***** Hits.
Hear 'Sell It Back' on All Songs Considered here, or read about it on SPIN.
If you're Brooklyn based, head to her release show at Union Pool 8/4 with Sam Evian and label mates Tiny Hazard.
A new song arrives from Omaha's master of messy rock perfection. The titular track from his forthcoming album is up today on NPR, and you can listen here.
"This is spastic dance music for rock 'n' roll deviants," says Lars Gotrich.
Negative Boogie is out July 14th - pre-order now.
In addition to Negative Boogie, anyone who pre-orders the album will receive a copy of Nance covering the entirety of Doug Sahm's Doug Sahm & Band.

We present you a follow up to the 'Seaworthy' video premiered on Impose, with added creepy eldritch footage at the end. It's a song from last years In The Sodium Light.
The video begins with the same dark, ominous tones that the band has showcased in years past. A slow motion shot of the sea, the title shown across the skyline as if written on a waving pirate flag. Tarot cards scattering across a painting of a 6 eyed mermaid gargoyle. And then a woman in a coffin. But it’s Maryrose, and she’s singing with her eyes closed. The video takes its time swapping between scenes as if its storyline is being performed on stage. The lighting, the stage pieces, it’s all a work of art. Add Maryrose’s gorgeous, sultry vocals into the mix with a little help from the strings, and this song – and its matching video – is a fairy tale come to life.
Video Credits:
Jorge W. Davies: camera, editing
Dominik Krzanowski: lighting, set design
Brian Crook: guitar
Mayrose Crook: vocals, guitar
Megan Siebe: viola, cello
Kevin Donahue: drums
Shahzad Ismaily: bass (unseen)
We're here to present you with 'Sesame,' the first single from Brooklyn experimental-pop group Tiny Hazard's debut, Greyland (out 2/24 on Ba Da Bing). This is a band whose live performances have kept us rapt and whose first album makes a strong, confident statement. So yeah, we're psyched.
If you're in New York, come see their release show at Rough Trade on 3/4.
Most importantly, listen to 'Sesame' now:
"Byrne is one of the finest contemporary examples of an artist who can do so much for the soul by lending you some of hers."
Stereogum sat down with Julie Byrne to discuss the impetus behind her forthcoming LP Not Even Happiness, as well as premiere the single "Follow My Voice."
